Kristin + Cameron
Austin, Texas
WRITTEN IN THE STARS
Classic, minimal, black and white. Kristen and Cameron knew exactly what they wanted. But getting married on Austin’s famously colorful South Congress Avenue called for a little Texas irreverence. A solar eclipse occurring close to the wedding offered the perfect excuse. Inspired by Kristen’s love of astrology and late-night fun, an eclipse mark became a recurring motif throughout the celebration. Black and white gave way to warm greys and earthy tones, borrowed from the limestone trails of the Texas Hill Country and the star-filled skies above them. As University of Texas graduates, these small references to place made the celebration feel like them. But the eclipse had one more story to tell…
MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE
At the center of the high-gloss dance floor sat the eclipse, surrounded by a line of words. To most guests, they could have been lyrics from a favorite song or a quote from an old film. They were something far more personal. The words belonged to Kristen’s late grandfather. He would say them at the end of letters and long-distance phone calls, or while tucking his children and grandchildren into bed at night. Placed there as a surprise for Kristen’s family, they turned one of the weekend’s boldest pieces into something else entirely: a small piece of family history, hiding in plain sight.
